Development Research Seminar: Climate Extremes and Forced Migrations in Developing Countries, by Dr. Avit Bhowmik

On September 12, 2023 Dr. Avit Bhowmik (Karlstad University), an Environmental Scientist and Climate Solutionist, visited Utrecht University for a seminar on the obscure causal link between climate extremes and forced migrations in developing countries. The seminar was attended by various UU academic scholars, PhD candidates and MSc students of the department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning. The seminar concluded with an expertise discussion on drought-triggered civil conflict and migration events in Darfur and Syria, through inputs to self-reinforcing feedback loops.
